About 4-H Summer Camp Camp Seeley

Crestline, CA

Mark your calendars!  June 22nd to June 28th, 2008 at the historic Camp Seeley in Crestline, California will be the site for the latest chapter in a Summer Camp program rich with history and tradition that dates back to the 1930's.  Any youth between the ages of 8 and 19 as of January 1st, 2008 is eligible to attend the 4-H Summer Camp.  If you are not currently enrolled in 4-H, you can do so today via your local 4-H County Office.

Why is 4-H Summer Camp so inexpensive ?  At $250 we offer a great Camp program that is well organized that includes room and board for six nights and seven days.  Most comparable camps charge much more.  4-H camp is a non-profit program and is supported entirely by the staff, adult volunteers, leaders, resource people and kitchen staff that are all 4-H members and volunteers.  The only exception is the Camp Nurse who is fully licensed, experienced and on site full time..

L.A. County 4-H Summer Camp is an Accredited Camp by the American Camping Association and offers the following activities daily: nature, handicrafts, ping pong, basketball, swimming, hiking, fishing, volleyball, horseshoes and more.  Each evening after flag lowering we light a fire in the firecircle, sing traditional camp songs and are entertained by a different event each night.  Past evening programs have included, Team Games, Talent Show, Haunted Walk, Movie Night, Graduation Ceremony and the Dance.

The meals are healthy, well-balanced and prepared by a kitchen staff anchored by Head Chef, Mary Lash.  Mary has over 55 years of experience teaching food preparation in the public schools and has been attending 4-H camp for over 60 years.  With so many activities and a full schedule the week at 4-H Camp goes by quickly.  Reserve your spot today with a non-refundable $30 deposit.

Camp Seeley is located in the San Bernardino Mountains, 65 miles from City Hall, nestled in a forest of tall pines at an elevation of 4,200 feet. Close to Lake Gregory and the Village of Crestline, it is located on Highway 138, four miles from Lake Silverwood. Camp Seeley is owned and operated by the Los Angeles Dept. of Recreation and Parks, under permit from the National Forest Service. The facility includes 60 cabins (each sleeps 4-5 people), a large kitchen, dining hall, rustic lodge, modern restroom/shower facilities, playing field, game room and children's play area. SUMMER CAMP STORIES

My favorite part of camp was the part of the day called camper's choice. During that time you can do anything you would like to such as play a number of sports, hang out with your buddies, go into the trading post where you can make crafts and buy snacks, go swimming at the pool, or hang out in the cabin. Everyday I helped out in the trading post and got ice cream, candy, drinks, or helped campers make crafts. I had a great time during camper's choice. There were about 100 campers from LA and San Bernardino areas and around 50 staff members. I met a bunch of really nice people who were either in my cabin or on my team. The other kids from our county met other people and introduced them to me while I introduced my friends to them. Lots of them were great to hang out with. The only disadvantage was that most of them live around an hour of two away. It was a new experience being in a place where I started out knowing only 5 other people and came out knowing about 80. I had an excellent time at this camp and I am hoping to go back next year and meet up with all of my new-found friends and meet some more friendly people.

Sincerely,

Cynthia
